It was unfortunately a long night of anti-climax for the Lib Dems in general. However, in this seat we did manage to achieve a small, but significant swing to the Lib Dems away from Labour and pushed the Conservatives further into third place.

That we were able to do this despite a very high turnout, which would normally work against us, is principally due to the massive help we received from members and supporters. I would like to thank you all sincerely for your tremendous efforts. Without you we might well have been another Lib Dem disappointment.
Thank you all so much also for all of your support and also for all of the really positive messages of support I have been receiving in the last two days.
On a different note, with our new role in this parliament it is an exciting time for the Lib Dems. Not only for having the opportunity to push through some of our main policies in parliament like splitting up the banks, but for finally being able to potentially achieve real electoral reform.
