Thank You to all of my Supporters

It was unfortunately a long night of anti-climax for the Lib Dems in general. However, in this seat we did manage to achieve a small, but significant swing to the Lib Dems away from Labour and pushed the Conservatives further into third place. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/shared/election2010/results/constituency/b45.stm. We have secured this constituency as a straight battle between Labour and the Lib Dems.

That we were able to do this despite a very high turnout, which would normally work against us, is principally due to the massive help we received from members and supporters. I would like to thank you all sincerely for your tremendous efforts. Without you we might well have been another Lib Dem disappointment.

Thank you all so much also for all of your support and also for all of the really positive messages of support I have been receiving in the last two days.

On a different note, with our new role in this parliament it is an exciting time for the Lib Dems. Not only for having the opportunity to push through some of our main policies in parliament like splitting up the banks, but for finally being able to potentially achieve real electoral reform.

Hello Prospective Constituents...

I am feeling really positive about the support I'm getting from residents in the Village, Knights Hill and East Dulwich. Not only that, I'm buoyed by the tremendous support I've been receiving in Herne Hill and Brixton. The number of people coming up to me to show their support is really moving and although I'm exhausted I'm really excited by the positive local feeling.

I came second in the 2005 election with a swing of +9.2% (one of the largest swings in the country; see image below) and with this ground swell of support that both I and my party have been receiving in the recent weeks, there is every chance for a new candidate to represent you. I would be honoured to be the person you choose.

Community Garden in Ruskin Park

I had a great time today (despite the weather) at the first dig to help set up the community garden in Ruskin Park, due to officially launch on May 9th. The Friends of Ruskin Park, Lambeth Council and Herne Hill Climate Action Network have made it happen and it is exactly the kind of thing that we need in the constituency. Not only does the vegetable garden aim to help reduce the carbon output involved in food production but it also is a great opportunity to involve both adults and children in techniques for vegetable growing. This initiative is great because it helps promote sustainability as well as community inclusiveness through the workshops that will be held over the coming months.

For more information about the project and to see when the next workshop will be click here.
